Distell Foundation

The Distell Foundation is an umbrella body for Distell’s corporate citizenship activities. Our approach is to invest in communities where we have a visible business presence. Distell invests in a few key areas: arts & culture; education and skills development linked to job creation.

Oude Libertas is not only a lifestyle & community arts centre but it is the HOME of the DISTELL FOUNDATION.

Many of the projects and initiatives supported by the Distell Foundation is also showcased at Oude Libertas. Some of those include the Ubuntu Teen Film Festival, new up-and coming artists are featured at the Oude Libertas Art Gallery and at the Amphitheatre. The Oude Libertas online magazine is a project created for young creative minds with a passion for writing, graphic design & photography. Young professionals in the culinary & hospitality industry get job opportunities at the centre.

Typically, there are three objectives for our social investment: that there is immediate and direct benefit to the recipient community; that the targeted project show capability to be sustainable and replicable; and that Distell’s corporate reputation be enhanced by the investment.

Distell’s corporate citizenship approach rests on three pillars, namely, Social Performance, Social Investment and Philanthropy. Social performance refers to Distell’s efforts to minimise and mitigate the harmful impact of the company’s operations on society, through a variety of initiatives linked to the harmful impact of alcohol abuse, quality and production management and the preservation of heritage assets. Social Investment is Distell’s conditional contributions in cash, time or resources focussed on addressing specific social or community needs. Philanthropy is unconditional cash or donations contributed to meet and immediate need in a community. These pillars guide the Distell Foundation in making a meaningful contribution within the scope of our focus areas.

The Distell Foundation operates from the Oude Libertas Centre and invests in society in various ways to contribute the prosperity of a stable democratic South Africa for all.
