Heavenly Quartez is a talented group of singers born and bred in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Heavenly Quartez is not just another classical group. They have a great cross-over appeal with a combination of different languages, including Afrikaans, English, Italian and Xhosa.

Nkumbuzo Nkonyana, Mawande Mxunyelwa, Melikhaya (Melly) Ndabeni and Sihle Mtitshana joined forces in 2008 and combined their powerful, versatile singing with youthful charm and an unbounded love of music. Their latest performances were at the resoundingly successful Cape Town Philharmonic’s Debut Gala Concert – A Symphonic Platform for Community Brilliance in February and their 10th Anniversary Concert in Khayelitsha in June. What a repertoire we have lined up for you! From Hooked on Beethoven to Nella Fantasia by Morricone. From Nessun Dorma by Puccini to Brindisi from Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’. From the modern hits Circle of Life by Elton John and I Believe in You, recorded by Celine Dion and Il Divo to a Big Band Selection. And of course, their acclaimed multilingual medley in Afrikaans, English, Italian and Xhosa. Heavenly Quartez will make you want to get up and sing with them!

Following their packed-to-the-rafters 10th Anniversay Concert at Artscape in December of last year,Nkumbuzo Nkonyana,  Melikhaya (Melly) Ndabeni and Sihle Mtitshana are once again joined by tenor Sipho Fubesi and guest artist Lynelle Kenned in a concert under the stars at Oude Libertas Amphitheatre.

Heavenly Quartez sang at the resoundingly successful Cape Town Philharmonic’s Debut Gala Concert – A Symphonic Platform for Community Brilliance in February of last year and held a celebratory concert in their home town of Khayelitsha in June.  Sipho Fubesi made his Royal Opera debut in 2013 in Parsifal. Other performances at the Royal Opera House include the world premiere of Heart of Darkness, ROH2 and Miss Fortune. Other productions include CandideLa Belle HélèneLa Clemenza di Tito,Carmen, Vanessa, Falstaff and The Yellow Sofa.  Soprano Lynelle Kenned is the star of Blood Brothers, Orpheus in AfricaWest Side Story (for which she won Fleur du Cap and Naledi Awards) and Calling Me Home.

This fantastic line-up is under the masterful baton of Chad Hendricks, leading the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and is directed by Aviva Pelham.

The concert is an eclectic, moving, entrancing mix of music, ranging from opera and the musicals, to African traditional, from a Golden Globe award-winning song to modern classics … and an wondrous orchestral ‘solos’!
